Celebrating Progress and Pioneers: Highlights from ALGA’s International Women’s Day Conference 2025
Our team proudly participated in the Australasian Land & Groundwater Association (ALGA)’s International Women’s Day Conference in Melbourne — an inspiring and empowering way to launch this year’s IWD celebrations.
Our representatives, Consultants Giorgia Kendall and Amy Tellefson, and Senior Consultant Abby Dai, joined professionals from across the sector for a day of reflection, recognition and forward-thinking dialogue. The event provided a powerful platform to explore the strides made in building a more gender-equal industry, while also highlighting the work still ahead.
A standout moment of the day was celebrating Brittany Jackson from Matrix Drilling Australia, the first female licensed driller in Victoria. Her groundbreaking achievement was more than symbolic, it was a tangible reminder of the barriers being broken and the trailblazers leading the way. Honouring her contributions was a true highlight and an inspiration to all who attended.
The conference also featured meaningful engagement with the National Women in Contaminated Land and Groundwater Special Interest Group (SIG). This session offered valuable insights into the strategic steps needed to further advance gender equality, not just within our own organisations but across the environmental and geoscience sectors more broadly.
From thought-provoking panel discussions to informal networking moments, the day was filled with inspiration, advocacy and a shared sense of purpose. It was heartening to see so many voices come together to champion inclusivity, support emerging leaders and commit to creating lasting change.
As we continue to celebrate the achievements of women in our field this International Women’s Day, and every day, we’re proud to be part of an industry that’s evolving, listening and taking real action.
It was a day filled with inspiration, thought-provoking discussions and a collective commitment to driving continued progress in our field.
